developable land.
From grazing pastures, single- family homes began to dominate en early, urban
landscape.
Lauderhill grew by nearly 30,000 residents between 1970-80, primarily as a result
of the promotional activities of the Jackie Gleason Inverrary Golf Classic.
Lauderhill today encompasses 7.6 square miles, over 50,000 people and an abundance
of single and multi-family residences. The business community ranges from service

Lauderhill prides itself on being an international city of 57,815 with a sizeable
minority middle class. One is just as likely to meet people of Russian ancestry
as they are to encounter persons of Jamaican descent.
"The Crossroads of Broward County," Lauderhill has an advantageous
location in West-Central Broward, dedicated volunteers, a Country Club and golf
courses. The city is a top choice for minority entrepreneurs.
Property taxes, although rising, still are relatively low.
On the other hand, the property tax base is flat. The city is perceived sometimes
as unsafe or undesirable to live because of crime and drugs. Lauderhill is divided
into four sections - Northwest, Inverrary, East and Central - which promotes
a sense of individuality instead of unity. And the city has an ample share of
government-subsidized housing.
But code enforcement is a high priority at City Hall and the Lauderhill Community
Council is trying to unify residents.
Opportunities for annexation are seen as a mixed blessing.
